Dad says Pontins Brean Sands break lasted just FIVE minutes

A dad said he spent just five minutes at Pontins’ Brean Sands resort after claiming he found “filth, grime and ants” in his chalet.

Mark Woodbine said he “wouldn’t have let his dog sleep” in the “horrendous” accommodation allocated to him at the Somerset holiday park.

The 29-year-old payed £169 for the three-night stay with his five-year-old daughter Ellie – but ended up spending hundreds of pounds to stay elsewhere.

“I was planning to go to Dubai in April but that went down the pan,” he told Black Country Live.

“As soon as I got the chance, I decided to get away to try and get rid of some stress.”

However when he arrived at the resort on Sunday, July 26, he quickly realised it wasn’t the relaxing break he had bargained for.

“It was horrendous,” he said.

“I checked in at 4pm and I was gone by five-past.

“I know it’s a cheap holiday but I didn’t expect that at all. It looked totally different on the pictures.”

He continued: “There was loads of litter and when I opened the door, there were around 20 or 30 ants walking around on the floor.

“It looked like the floor had been mopped but that was all. It was horrendous.

“The oven hadn’t been cleaned, there was grime and rust inside the microwave. The bed linen looked like it was from the 1960s, the filth on the windows was unreal and it stank of damp.

“I just shut the door, I wouldn’t let my dog sleep in there, never mind me and my daughter.”

Determined to still have a break, the Rowley Regis dad forked out another £402 for a three-night caravan break at nearby Unity Farm – and said other Pontins’ guests had the same idea.

“While I was in the queue, the lady in front of me said exactly the same thing and the lady behind me,” he said.

“I put a post on Facebook and everybody said it’s the worst it has ever been.

“I didn’t tell anyone I was going but they said if they’d have known they’d have warned me to steer clear, which is what I’ll be doing from now on, I’ll tell people not to bother.

“I’ve been to Brean a few times and it’s alright down here to be honest, it’s a cheap getaway. But I’ve never been to Pontins and I’d never go again.

“I didn’t ask for a refund as there was a huge queue and I didn’t want to relocate to another one as they all looked as bad as each other.

“It doesn’t look like I’ll get my money back. I might send them an email but I’m not hopeful.”

Pontins has been contacted for comment.
