A Journey to Miffytown: Experience a Taste of the Netherlands in Williamstown, Kentucky

Miffytown: A Unique Family Attraction in Kentucky Celebrating Iconic Dutch Character Miffy

Williamstown, Kentucky, a small town with a population nearing 4,000, is home to an unusual yet delightful experience that has captured the hearts of families: Miffytown, the only dedicated attraction in the United States celebrating Miffy, a beloved Dutch storybook character. Located less than two hours from Louisville, Miffytown has quickly become a noteworthy destination for both locals and visitors, providing a rich blend of entertainment and educational activities for children and their families.

Miffy, an endearing white bunny figure, first emerged in 1955 when Dutch artist Dick Bruna crafted a bedtime story for his young son. What began as a simple tale has since transformed Miffy into an international icon, admired for her minimalist design and wholesome adventures that resonate with children across the globe. As Miffy continues to fascinate, her presence in Williamstown showcases a unique cultural exchange, bridging Dutch heritage with American family values.

Miffytown was pioneered by Kentucky entrepreneur Hans Philippo, who moved to the United States from the Netherlands. Philippo opened the attraction on February 16, 2023, inspired by Miffy’s popularity in his homeland. He is also a co-founder of Holland X Farms Restaurant Group, which operates two local restaurants in the area. Situated at 141 N. Main Street, the whimsical world of Miffytown offers families an environment that encourages creativity and learning while immersing them in the charm of Miffy’s stories.

As general manager Crystal Kearns notes, visitors are often astonished to find such a dedicated homage to Miffy in this quaint Kentucky town. “Many express their disbelief that Miffytown exists here,” Kearns explains. Families can indulge in various activities, from crafting suncatchers to painting terracotta pots. The attraction also features an interactive garden, dubbed “The Green Space,” allowing children to learn about gardening by planting tulip bulbs they can later take home.

Miffytown hosts regular programming designed to engage the imaginations of its young visitors. Children are encouraged to explore lessons in colors, shapes, and numbers through the lens of Miffy’s adventures. Additionally, the location playfully caters to an older demographic; Kearns has observed groups of young adults spending hours enjoying the vibrant atmosphere.

Admission to the Miffy experience is currently free, although Miffytown features a retail shop where visitors can purchase official merchandise, including plush toys and gardening supplies. Information on special appearances by Miffy herself—typically organized three to four times annually—is shared through Miffytown’s social media channels, enhancing the community’s engagement and excitement.

Miffytown’s operating hours are Wednesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This charming attraction provides an exemplary model for how cultural icons can foster family bonding and create memorable experiences, making Miffytown a must-visit destination in the heart of Kentucky.

For families seeking a delightful excursion, Miffytown not only celebrates Miffy but also emphasizes the joys of learning through play, ensuring that this small town’s unique offering resonates well beyond its borders.
