Near North Health Opens Bronzeville Family Center to Enhance Community Healthcare Access
Near North Health (NNH) has officially inaugurated the Bronzeville Family Center, situated within the Oakwood Shores development at 3753 South Cottage Grove. This new facility succeeds the Komed Holman Health Center located at 4259 South Berkeley Avenue. The relocation is part of NNH’s strategic initiative to consolidate healthcare operations into three main hubs: the Winfield Moody Health Center, the North Kostner Health Center, and the newly established Family Health Center at Oakwood Shores.
The move to the Oakwood Shores site aims to streamline service delivery, augment the patient experience, and leverage advanced technology in healthcare. One of the notable advancements at the new facility is the provision of on-site mammography and ultrasound services, which will significantly facilitate breast examinations. This enhancement is particularly vital, as studies indicate that Black women are disproportionately affected by late-stage breast cancer diagnoses. By offering these essential preventive services, NNH seeks to address critical healthcare disparities in the community.
Dr. Smith, a representative from NNH, expressed enthusiasm about the opening, stating, “We are very excited to welcome patients and the community to a new space that improves convenience and quality of care. Too many residents of the South Side still lack access to primary and specialty care, especially those without health care insurance. This move aims to expand and modernize the care offerings that our families rightfully deserve close to home, regardless of their ability to pay.”
At the Bronzeville Family Center, patients will have access to a wide range of services previously available at the Komed Holman location. These services include primary care in internal medicine, women’s health, and pediatric care. Additionally, the center will provide behavioral health therapy, counseling, and integrated care, early intervention services, health education and outreach, care coordination, and an onsite laboratory.
In the coming months, further expanded services will be rolled out at the Oakwood Shores facility, which will include oral health, podiatry, ophthalmology, nutrition and WIC services, as well as an expansion of telehealth options enabling virtual specialty care. Community-based health programs focusing on maternal-child health and chronic disease management will also be introduced.
As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), Near North Health is committed to delivering high-quality and affordable healthcare services to individuals and families, particularly aiming to serve underserved populations. The organization’s mission underscores the importance of improving community health and well-being by providing culturally sensitive healthcare that is accessible to all, irrespective of insurance status or financial means.
This strategic investment in healthcare infrastructure within the Bronzeville community not only aims to improve immediate access to essential medical services but also reflects NNH’s ongoing dedication to fostering healthier communities throughout the region.
