The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) has announced the availability of scholarships for high school seniors under its annual “Teen Alzheimer’s Awareness Scholarship” program. This initiative aims to support students who have been personally affected by Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia disorders, empowering them to share their experiences and raise awareness about these conditions.
The scholarship program invites eligible seniors to apply by composing an essay of up to 1,500 words or producing a video that does not exceed four minutes in length. Applicants are encouraged to reflect on how Alzheimer’s disease or other types of dementia have influenced their lives. The essay or video should detail their personal narratives, insights gained about themselves, their family, and their community through their experiences, and articulate how they intend to advocate for Alzheimer’s awareness in the future.
To qualify for the Teen Alzheimer’s Awareness Scholarship, applicants must be current high school seniors residing in the United States, with plans to enroll in a college or university for the upcoming fall semester. This program not only provides financial assistance for higher education but also fosters a sense of community among students facing similar challenges, creating a platform for advocacy and shared experiences.
The scholarship’s top award is ,000, with additional prizes designated for runners-up and honorable mentions. Since its inception, the program has awarded more than 7,000 in scholarships, reflecting AFA’s commitment to supporting youth in their educational pursuits while promoting greater understanding of Alzheimer’s disease.
Interested students can submit their entries through the AFA’s official website at www.alzfdn.org/scholarship. The deadline for submissions is set for Sunday, March 1, allowing prospective applicants ample time to reflect on their stories and articulate their thoughts effectively.
This program aligns with the broader mission of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, which aims to provide support and education to those affected by dementia. By engaging young people in this critical conversation, the AFA is not only fostering future advocates but also raising awareness and understanding of the significant impact that Alzheimer’s disease has on individuals and families across the nation.
