Cigar Family Charitable Foundation Inaugurates New Academy of Arts in the Dominican Republic
On December 12, 2023, the Cigar Family Charitable Foundation (CFCF) marked a significant milestone with the opening of its new Cigar Family Academy of Arts in Bonao, Dominican Republic. This ambitious project was made possible through the generous support of luxury watchmaker Hublot, exemplifying the partnership between philanthropy and community development. The academy aims to enhance educational and career opportunities for children within the region, aligning with the longstanding mission of the Fuente and Newman families to uplift the local community.
Nestled within the expansive 23-acre Cigar Family project, the new facility comprises four dedicated buildings designed for music, dance, and visual arts programs, accompanied by an amphitheater, which serves as a venue for performances and community gatherings. With these additions, CFCF intends to broaden its educational curriculum, specifically targeting aspiring artists and nurturing their talents in various disciplines.
Carlos Fuente, Jr., co-founder of CFCF, expressed his deep gratitude for Hublot’s contributions, stating, “I am enormously grateful to my friends at Hublot for supporting the creation of our new Academy of Arts. This beautiful, state-of-the-art facility will give new opportunities to children in the Dominican Republic to pursue their passion and talent in the arts.” His remarks underscored the importance of community engagement and investment in the youth’s potential.
The grand opening celebration was well attended, drawing approximately 100 guests, including the Fuente and Newman families, Hublot executives, local dignitaries, and renowned Grammy Award-winning artist Arturo Sandoval, who performed at the inauguration of the amphitheater. Sandoval’s involvement added a celebratory flair and highlighted the artistic aspirations of the academy.
Eric M. Newman, CFCF co-founder, emphasized the foundation’s commitment to transparency and accountability, noting, “I want to thank all of the cigar enthusiasts around the world who support CFCF and the children and families it serves through their generous donations or by purchasing a Toast Across America pack. Because the Fuente and Newman families underwrite all of CFCF’s operating costs, every dollar raised goes directly to help children in need.”
Currently, CFCF provides educational resources to 440 students through its primary school, high school, technical school, and now the new arts academy. Since its inception in 2004, the foundation has invested over million into these educational initiatives, gaining recognition from governmental and international organizations, including accolades from the United Nations. This success serves as a model for how businesses and communities can collaborate to create transformative opportunities for low-income families.
Scott Lewis, CEO of CFCF, summed up the day’s significance, stating, “Today was a very special day, a day that should make all of us proud.
