Birmingham’s McWane Appoints Will McWane as New President, Signaling Generational Leadership Transition
Birmingham, AL – McWane, a prominent family-owned enterprise in the Birmingham area, has announced the appointment of Will McWane as its new president, effective immediately. This transition marks a significant milestone for the company, as Will McWane becomes the fifth generation to lead the business, which has been a cornerstone in the manufacturing sector since its inception in 1921.
Will McWane is following in the footsteps of his father, Phillip McWane, who will retain his position as chairman of the company. In an official statement, Phillip McWane expressed his confidence in Will’s capabilities: “With an eye toward the company’s future, our board of directors were overwhelmingly pleased to recognize Will’s performance, capabilities, and commitment to the company. On a personal note, I am incredibly proud to watch Will grow into this position and to have the opportunity to serve and lead this company alongside him.”
Initially founded as the McWane Cast Iron Pipe Co., the business has evolved into a formidable conglomerate with a diverse portfolio that now encompasses 18 individual companies both domestically and internationally. McWane’s product offerings include a wide range of ductile iron products such as pipes, valves, hydrants, fittings, plumbing components, and fire protection systems, employing approximately 6,000 individuals in various roles across its facilities.
Will McWane has been with the company since 2014 and has held the position of executive vice president since 2019. During his tenure, he has taken on increasing responsibilities that include oversight of the McWane Plumbing Group, McWane Real Estate/Highline Real Estate, and McWane International, in addition to managing the company’s corporate functions. Prior to joining McWane, he served as president of Alabama Dynamics, a company specializing in heavy equipment fabrication, further enhancing his expertise in the manufacturing sector.
Will McWane’s academic credentials complement his professional experience. He graduated from Auburn University with a degree in mechanical engineering and went on to earn a master’s degree in finance from Georgetown University. His commitment to community engagement is evident through his involvement on the Board of Junior Achievement of Alabama and as a lead supporter of the McWane Economic Education Center, which is currently under construction in Birmingham.
As McWane embarks on this new chapter under Will McWane’s leadership, the company aims to continue its legacy of innovation and excellence while navigating the evolving landscape of the manufacturing industry. This leadership transition not only reflects the spirit of family values that have long been a hallmark of McWane but also positions the company for sustained growth in the years to come.
