“Discussing with Sean Gandini”

Gandini Juggling, a renowned juggling group, is set to bring their celebrated work “Smashed” to the Peacock Theatre in London on 31 May and 1 June, marking the show’s return to the city after seven years. Directed by Sean Gandini, “Smashed” promises to bring the spirit of choreographer Pina Bausch and a unique performance filled with hypnotic patterns, funny scenes, choreography, and thought-provoking material.

Inspired by Pina Bausch’s innovative approach to performance art, Gandini Juggling aims to captivate audiences with their exploration of juggling as a vibrant and engaging form of entertainment. The show promises to offer a different rhythm of watching, allowing the audience to interpret the performance in their own way, much like Bausch’s own work.

“Smashed” has been a resounding success since its inception in 2010, with performances around the world garnering attention. Notable performances include the Festival d’Automne in Paris and a special show for the Mime Festival 40th Anniversary. The group’s incorporation of various dance forms into their shows reflects their passion for exploring the versatility of juggling and its ability to blend seamlessly with other art forms.

Sean Gandini and his wife, Kati Ylä-Hokkala, have worked together for over 30 years, bringing their creative vision to life through Gandini Juggling. Their collaboration has led to memorable moments on stage, including performances at prestigious venues like the Metropolitan Opera House and Sadler’s Wells. As joint directors, they have found a balance in their creative and managerial roles, each bringing their unique skills to the table.

With “Smashed” set to enchant audiences at the Peacock Theatre, Gandini Juggling continues to push the boundaries of juggling as an art form, combining skill, creativity, and a touch of magic to create captivating performances that leave a lasting impression.
