Hands-On Storytelling Workshop for Families at Rockport Public Library
Rockport, ME — In an engaging initiative aimed at promoting creativity and family bonding, local multimedia artist and seasoned papermaker Kristen Eckmann will conduct a hands-on storytelling workshop for families on January 22, 2024, at 6 p.m. The event, hosted at the Rockport Public Library, encourages participants to delve into the art of storytelling through the creation of unique, three-dimensional objects.
The workshop is designed to foster a playful exploration of personal narratives by guiding families in using fabric and thread to craft tangible representations of their life stories. Eckmann, renowned for her captivating installations and expertise in textile arts, will introduce attendees to fundamental stitching techniques, as well as surface design, drawing, and collage methods. This diverse range of skills allows families to express their creativity and individuality while learning valuable crafting techniques.
This workshop is complemented by Eckmann’s ongoing installation piece, “A Memory To Hold,” which is currently showcased at Zoot Coffee in Camden throughout the month of January. The installation reflects Eckmann’s artistic vision of memory and identity, further enhancing the context of the workshop as participants explore their own stories in a creative format.
The workshop welcomes families of all backgrounds and skill levels, making it an accessible opportunity for those interested in combining art with personal reflection. All necessary materials will be provided, although participants are encouraged to bring along items from home that resonate with the stories they wish to tell. This collaborative and interactive environment is designed to inspire connections within families and among participants.
Due to space limitations, it is advisable for interested families to register in advance to secure their spot. Registration can be done by contacting the Rockport Public Library at 236-3642. This event not only promises to be an enriching experience but also highlights the growing trend of integrating arts and personal narratives in community-driven educational settings.
