LatinxEd Unveils Policy Priorities for Latino Students at Annual Education Summit

On Friday, LatinxEd, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting Latino students and their families, unveiled its inaugural policy priorities at the annual Latine Education Summit held in Greensboro, North Carolina. This significant event showcased the organization’s commitment to enhancing educational opportunities and outcomes for Latino communities across the state, reflecting an urgent need for systemic change in local schools.

The new framework, termed REAP, represents an acronym for Representation, Engagement, Adequate Funding, and Post-Secondary Pathways. Yahel Flores, the Director of Community Impact at LatinxEd, discussed the development process for these policy priorities, noting that they were constructed after extensive listening sessions conducted throughout the state. “These priorities didn’t come from anywhere; they came from the community itself,” Flores stated. “Once you start shifting narratives, you initiate a transformation in the surrounding culture. This process involves sharing the personal stories of those directly impacted.”

By prioritizing representation and engagement, LatinxEd aims to foster an inclusive educational environment that values and acknowledges the diverse identities of its student body.
