Eagle Scouts Achieve Prestigious Rank in El Paso Ceremony
EL PASO, Texas — In a ceremony held last evening, nine young men were awarded the prestigious Eagle Scout badges, a significant milestone in the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) program. This honor is awarded to only about four percent of all scouts, making it a notable achievement in the scouting community.
Scoutmaster Presi Ortega expressed his pride in the accomplishment, noting that this is the largest group ever to attain the Eagle rank within a single year under his leadership. “This is the utmost that a Scoutmaster can ever feel. It’s just amazing to get them when they’re 10 years old and to be part of their life,” Ortega stated. The Eagle Scout rank is not easily earned; it requires dedication and commitment to the scouting principles. To achieve this esteemed rank, candidates must meet several criteria, including: maintaining active status as a Life Scout for a minimum of six months, earning at least 21 merit badges (14 of which are mandatory), holding leadership positions within their troop, and completing a significant community service project. This project, which must be planned, organized, led, and managed by the scout, showcases leadership and a commitment to community service.
One of the recipients, a scout identified as Cyr, shared his experience in documenting his journey toward achieving the Eagle rank. Cyr chose a noteworthy project that involved raising funds to supply materials for painting the Kelly Center for Hunger Relief, an initiative aimed at addressing food insecurity in the community. With the successful completion of his project, Cyr felt accomplished and ready to embrace his new responsibilities as an Eagle Scout, symbolizing a new chapter in his life marked by leadership and service.
