Fatherhood FIRE Program Celebrates Graduation of Seven Fathers in San Bernardino County
On January 25, 2025, seven ambitious fathers proudly graduated from the Fatherhood FIRE (Family-Focused, Interconnected, Resilient, and Essential) program, an initiative led by the San Bernardino County Preschool Services Department. This program, designed to empower fathers, emphasizes the vital role they play in raising their children while enhancing family dynamics.
The Fatherhood FIRE program is a three-month initiative that equips fathers with critical skills in financial literacy, effective parenting, and relationship management. The goal of the program is not only to strengthen individual families but also to foster a community of informed and engaged fathers who recognize the importance of their involvement in their children’s lives. By addressing various themes such as communication, co-parenting, and economic stability, the program supports fathers in navigating the complexities of parenthood.
The recent cohort, comprising graduates John Kostandy, Isaiah Rosales, Kevin Corbin, Martin Ramos, Daniel Felix, Francis Hanson, and Terrance Tinsley, participated in weekly virtual sessions from September 5 to December 5, 2024. Each Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m., they engaged in lively discussions and interactive lessons designed to enhance their skills as parents and partners. This immersive approach allowed for a rich exchange of ideas and experiences, fostering a supportive learning environment.
In addition to the structured lectures, the program included weekly follow-ups, ensuring each father received ongoing encouragement and guidance. This systematic support played a crucial role in their learning journeys, reinforcing their commitment to personal and familial growth.
One graduate offered a heartfelt reflection on his transformative experience, stating, “I enjoyed my time during those weeks we were on Zoom. The program opened my eyes to my responsibilities and gave me a new perspective on family and the importance of being in the home. I want to bring my children up to their full potential and make sure they get whatever out of life.” Such testimonials highlight the program’s effectiveness in instilling a sense of accountability and purpose within its participants.
The success of this group underscores the significant impact of the Fatherhood FIRE program, showcasing how tailored educational experiences help fathers become engaged and resilient caregivers. Each cohort is designed with the unique needs of participants in mind, emphasizing that fatherhood is not a solitary journey but a shared experience that can be improved with the right resources and support.
Looking ahead, the San Bernardino County Preschool Services Department is eager to welcome future cohorts, continuing its mission to make a meaningful difference in the lives of families across the region.
