Calgary, Alberta, is buzzing with excitement as June 5 approaches, marking the grand opening of the BMO Centre’s massive 565,000-square-foot expansion. With this new addition, the BMO Centre proudly claims the title of the largest convention facility in Western Canada, boasting over one million square feet of space.
The expansion project includes 102,500 square feet of exhibit hall space, 68,000 square feet of meeting room space, and 50,000 square feet of ballroom space. In addition, there will be a 118,500-square-foot back-of-house area, an outdoor plaza, and a central atrium area for visitors to enjoy.
One of the highlights of the new spaces is the 3,000-square-foot Brand Room, featuring stylish finishes in leather, copper, and charred wood that pay homage to the city’s western heritage. Guests can also take in stunning views of Stampede Park from the Brand Room’s 11,000-square-foot covered balcony. Stampede Park is home to the famous Calgary Stampede, an annual 10-day festival, exhibition, and rodeo that drew in approximately 1.3 million visitors in July 2023. The Stampede is not only a major boost to the local economy but also a cherished tradition that celebrates the area’s rural heritage.
The design of the BMO Centre expansion pays tribute to the Stampede with 1,500 lights adorning the 170-foot curved canopy. The Pavilion Lights display is a nod to the rides, lights, and fireworks that illuminate the annual festivities.
In addition to the BMO Centre expansion, Stampede Park will also welcome the 30,000-square-foot Sam Centre this year. This venue will be dedicated to showcasing the history and story of the Stampede and will be available for special events and receptions, adding to the rich tapestry of cultural offerings in Calgary.
