Geaux Far Louisiana: Advancing Early Childhood Equity Through Community Collaboration

Rooted in principles of racial equity and community engagement, Geaux Far Louisiana is spearheading an initiative aimed at establishing a cohesive, equitable framework that supports families while preparing Louisiana’s children for a successful future. The initiative addresses the pressing need for high-quality early childhood education and development services across the state.

“Geaux Far Louisiana was established to revolutionize Louisiana’s early childhood systems by prioritizing the voices of families and various early childhood providers. Our mission encompasses everything from policy creation to community implementation,” remarks Dr. Libbie Sonnier, co-chair of Geaux Far Louisiana and CEO of the Louisiana Policy Institute for Children. This initiative aims to tackle the challenges that families face, ensuring that every child receives the support necessary for their growth and development.

As a statewide movement, Geaux Far Louisiana underscores its commitment to inclusivity, emphasizing a family and provider-driven approach. The initiative seeks to construct a robust network that champions family-friendly workplaces and advocates for universal childcare. Leaders of Geaux Far Louisiana are optimistic that concrete improvements in the lives of children are attainable through collective public endeavors. “We believe that it is possible to forge a unified early childhood system that guarantees effortless access to developmental, health, and educational services,” asserts Rochelle Wilcox, co-chair of Geaux Far Louisiana and CEO of Wilcox Academy of Early Learning.

To amplify its mission, Geaux Far Louisiana invites community members to participate in ‘Geaux Far Day at the Capitol’ on April 15. This annual event seeks to empower and elevate the voices of Louisiana’s parents, providers, and advocates. Participants will have the opportunity to engage directly with policymakers, share impactful narratives, and advocate for policies promoting educational equity and family-centered initiatives.

In preparation for this pivotal event, Geaux Far Louisiana is hosting ‘Geaux Far Week’ from March 17 to March 22, which will feature various activities in cities across the state. This week-long program is designed to deepen community engagement and build momentum for advocacy efforts leading to more robust legislative action at the Capitol.
