Utah State University Brigham City Region Launches Help Students Thrive Scholarship Campaign
The Utah State University (USU) Brigham City Region has unveiled a new initiative, the Help Students Thrive campaign, designed to bolster scholarship funding for local students, including residents, employees, and family members of the community. This direct-ask scholarship initiative aims to enhance accessibility to higher education for individuals pursuing their academic aspirations.
All financial contributions garnered through the Help Students Thrive campaign will be directed toward scholarships that target students from the surrounding areas. The intent is to provide critical financial support that will allow these individuals to pursue their higher education goals and build brighter futures.
Kristen Walton, the director of student services for USU Brigham City Region, emphasizes the significance of these scholarships in fostering educational advancement. “In my position, my favorite stewardship is to facilitate the awarding of these funds to our students and help them achieve their dreams of a higher education,” Walton stated. “I have seen time and again how degrees change lives, and our donors make it possible for students in our area to earn those degrees. Our donors are nothing short of heroes; they are dream makers.”
The compelling narratives shared by past scholarship recipients underscore the transformative impact of this initiative. One former recipient articulated her gratitude, reflecting on the moment she received news of her scholarship while on a break from work. “I cried at my desk, and I am still crying now,” she shared. “Thank you so much.” This emotional response highlights the profound difference that such financial aid can make in a student’s journey toward achieving their educational aspirations.
Rory McFarland, another scholarship recipient who recently completed his bachelor’s degree in technology systems, echoed similar sentiments. “I am incredibly grateful for the generous support and opportunity that this scholarship has provided,” he expressed. “It has not only alleviated my financial burden but has also empowered me to pursue my academic goals with renewed passion and determination.”
Dan Black, the associate vice president for the Brigham City Region, noted the community’s role in fostering local talent. “Local scholarships prioritize our students and make a difference in our community. The students that receive these funds study here, graduate here, and become contributing members right here in our area,” he remarked, acknowledging the essentiality of local funding for student success.
